Plant Species for Westchester
The eco-region for our county is defined as ‘The Southern New England Coastal Plains and Hills”. Our habitat has been formed over thousands of years specific to our location and climate. For habitat restoration it is key to restore the elements that are native to this eco-region. Our yards are most beneficial if we combine a different species in different layers; ground covers, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees.
The growing concern about our climate and the loss of species is pushing landscapers and nurseries to offer more sustainable choices, and we are seeing more nurseries and landscapers committed to eco-friendly services and products. So whether you want to do it alone or with help, there is nothing that should stop you from starting your wildlife and/or climate friendly yard. Good luck!
